're popping up and starting to come back to fight back. joe biden says, where are the specifics from governor romney. he failed to explain that romney would raise taxes on the middle class. he's coming right back at you. they took the defeat and coming back at you. what's your answer? >> well, it's going to be more excuses and negativity out of the obama campaign, which is no surprise because stuart, their record, as you have stated several times, and as we see from the new unemployment numbers being ratcheted up again, they have a horrible record on the economy, and more so, for the first time tonight, the american people realize that they have no plan whatsoever in getting us out of it. so, i think this is a huge pivot point for america and for the romney campaign. stuart: okay, so, look, you work in the campaign. and you-- >> i volunteer, my friend. volunteer, but we're slugging it out. stuart: you know what's going on with the campaign. has there been a pivot in strategy after what happened last night. are you now coming out swinging? is this candidate, governor romney, is he, are we now

biden and paul ryan's image. ryan generally, generally has a better image than paul ryan. if joe biden is the answer i don't know what -- want to know what the question is. look, senior citizens, republicans -- the nice thing is we have had decades of dealing with democratic demagoguery on seniors issues whether it be social security or medicare or both. so look we are well aware -- the first stage in a democratic campaign plan is minority turnout plan. the first page and the republicans is, how do we make sure we don't get heard among senior citizens so this is something our campaigns are very aware of. we have messages that we have tested in response. yes it is effective. you test a democratic attack versus a republican response attack and basically it plays to a tie so i don't think it's going to be the game-changer for the house that the democrats you know, think that it is. the one thing to keep an eye on actually more than cedar citizens on this issue are near seniors, those 55 to 64 years old. seniors are getting medicare and getting social security. they know that the rug is no
barack obama and joe biden did is they've endangered medicare, they've stole money from medicare, and they've done it to get obamacare and all this, and you see in the ads, and you hear it in everything they say. nothing could be further from the truth. >> next thursday night, october 11th, congressman paul ryan and vice president joe biden will face off in their only debate. abc news' martha rad dismoderates from center college in danville, kentucky, and you can watch and engage with c-span with our live debate preview at 7 p.m. eastern followed by the debate at 9. and your reaction, calls, e-mails and tweets at 10:30. follow live coverage on c-span, c-span radio and online at c-span.org. >>> this month as the presidential candidates meet for debate, we're asking middle and high school students to send a message to the president as part of in this year's c-span's student cam video documentary competition. in a short video, students will answer the question, what's the most important issue the president should consider in 2013, for a chance to win the grand prize of $5,000. and t
quite well against joe biden. you could have the situation where they wrap up two debate victories before he gets back on the field. so whether the poll numbers move or not, we'll wait to see, buttal all the other elements you want to see. having the narrative go your way and the grasset reus and your troops be energized. this couldn't have come at a better moment for mitt romney. >> there's been some discussion. the democrats trying to push, the twitter hash tag #testymitt the way he moved around jim lehler. once you take a punch right in the jaurks it takes them some time to get their legs. i expect barack obama to come back in two weeks and be far more effective. but the spin from the democrats, i've got to admit, has been pretty weak. >> if you are in charge of prep for them over the next two weeks, how would you alter strategy, if at all? >> well, the for matt is an interesting one that should play to barack obama's strength. it's a town hall format. you'll see a far more aggressive president and he'll try to put him on defense. the question, really, is it's got to be on issue
